Martin Whatson (b. 1984) is a Norwegian-born street artist. While studying art and graphic design at the Westerdals School of Communication in Oslo, he discovered stencil art and the urban art scene. He jumped on the graffiti art bandwagon and made his first stencils in the winter of 2004. He was inspired by people, cityscapes, old buildings, graffiti, posters and walls. The motif of decay characterizes his style. His artistic expression began largely politically and has gradually evolved into more subtle expressions. Whatson was inspired by artists such as Jose Parla and Cy Twombly. He uses shades of gray as a base. By adding vibrant colors he breaks the monochromatic expression and brings a splash of life to his work. Since his artistic debut in 2004, he has held several solo exhibitions. Whatson also took part in many group exhibitions, both national and international, in metropolises such as Tokyo, Paris, London, New York and Los Angeles.

Martin Whatson was represented by the Ministry of Walls Street Art Gallery with large-scale works at Art Basel Miami Scope 2015.
