David Uessem – Colour Session 3

David Uessem was born 1981 in Engelskirchen and lives and works in the Oberberg. This is a region near Cologne. He is a talented illustrator and has completed courses in painting and graphics. He mixes acrylic and oil techniques for his artworks. This makes his paintings so great. The artist specializes in portrait and figurative painting. His works were shown last year in several renowned exhibitions and will be shown again this year. David Uessem – Colour Session

From 2002 to 2005 he studied illustration and desktop publishing at the IBKK in Bochum. Shortly afterwards, in 2007, he used a self-portrait for his passport. Against David’s expectations, the pictures were passed through even though they were based on templates and biometric scanners. Later in 2009, this fake was reported to WDR and Uessem’s passport was revoked. Moreover, he worked from 2005 to 2012 at the IBKK in Bochum as a lecturer for illustration.

The most eye-catching aspect of Uessem’s large-format portraits are the expressions of his motifs. They always look the viewer straight in the eye as if they were sharing their feelings and emotions. David Uessem – Colour Session

Even the smallest motions of the face show a lot about the emotional status of people. While some of the figures shown are thoughtful or sad, others are ambiguous and show anger. The texture is as eye-catching as the complexity usually found in the eyes of the subjects.
