Without a doubt, the work of Marco Battaglini (born in Verona, Italy, 1969) reminds us of the anxiety inherent in Western society throughout the 21st century. This artist’s work exposes us to an aesthetic shock, a style laced with eclecticism and a touch of humour that brings a smile to the viewer’s face while raising questions about the dogma that underlies current artistic and social trends.

Throughout his artistic career, Battaglini has maintained a complex concept of the effect of reality by approaching it from its basis in perception and coming close to the multidimensionality of existence. His aim was to expose the contradictions inherent in human existence by demonstrating the power of imagination through his glimpse at the reality that surrounds us – a reality that sometimes insists on playing tricks on our perception.

Here we have an artist who pays particular attention to the notions of time and space, viewing them as fictional entities and showing us that their value and weight in our daily lives are in fact relatively relative. With this modus operandi of taking away reality and giving it back to us in the tangible form of art, we are offered the opportunity to see reality from a very different perspective.

Battaglini’s insistence on laying the inherent relativity of our lives is a fundamental feature of the work presented in his compositions.
These compositions capture the essence of an artist whose desire to destroy the conventions of perceptible reality is combined with a passion for art and an interest in a variety of genres. Thus, the artist projects to us his own personal universe, capable of immersing the viewer in reflection on a wide range of subjects, from the concept of artistic expression to the very notion of individual human existence.
