ZALEZ – True Love

Zalez, born 1985 in Toulouse, is a multidisciplinary artist known for defying codes of behaviour and stimulating the public’s mind.
After studying design and architecture and graduating from the School of Fine Arts, he plunged into the graffiti scene and became part of a group called Zone Agréee Libertaire Eduquée. At the beginning of the millennium, this group made the streets of Toulouse their playground for exhibitions and happenings.

While originally a street artist, Zalez turned to creating paintings on canvas in 2008 and has been represented via exhibitions in various countries such as England, Spain, Hungary, Hong Kong and numerous other places. While he was developing his technique by drawing in paint and focusing on working in the studio, he also continued to experiment on the streets. In 2012, the “Galerie D’art Berthéas” opened the doors of its showrooms to the artist. Zalez has been experimenting with different tools and media in a creative mix: drawing, stencils, ink, acrylic paint and sculpture.

Zalez’s work deals with the identity of women, into which he infuses a deliberately provocative message. What seems shocking and controversial at first glance, such as the nudity of the depicted subject in particular postures, in fact reveals the artist’s originality.

“Nudity inspires amusement, but also causes a sense of shock, thereby retaining its attraction and fascination. This is all the more true when it is exhibited in a public setting,” the artist explains.

Placing his work in the paradoxical context between classicism, the way nudity is drawn and approached, and the contemporary urban design from which he draws his use of techniques and his modern denunciations, Zalez provides us with a wealth of pleasant provocations. A subtle balance between classical aesthetics and reactionary aims. A goal where women regain full control over their bodies and exercise freedom of choice, a path they have voluntarily embarked upon.

To illustrate the artist’s versatility and creative power, we would like to use this opportunity to share with you this particular piece of art, True Love.
